Western Canada Road Trip
Western Canada had long captured my imagination, and travelling from Vancouver through the Rocky Mountains to Calgary was every bit as extraordinary as I had hoped. From whale watching on the Pacific coast to the dramatic landscapes of Jasper and Banff, the journey revealed some of the most breathtaking scenery. It's a route I recomment for those wanting to combine dramatic scenery, wildlife and a real sense of exploration.
Aruba · One Happy Island
Aruba will always hold a special place in my heart. It was here, on a beautiful stretch of Caribbean beach, that we were married some fifteen years ago. Returning more recently during a Caribbean cruise brought back so many memories and reminded me why this island continues to stand out. It's a destination I often recomment for those looking for reliable sunshine, relaxed luxury and an easy Caribbean escape.
With year round sunshine and cooling trade winds, Aruba offers some of the most reliable weather in the Caribbean. Palm Island is a wonderful day out, with turquoise waters, snorkelling and a relaxed island atmosphere that perfectly captures the spirit of the island.
The island's Dutch heritage gives Aruba a personality all of its own. From colourful buildings and historic windmills to the famous aloe vera plantations that have been part of the islands history for generations. Aruba blends Caribbean warmth with European charm, creating a destination that feels both vibrant and welcoming and makes it easy to enjoy from the moment you arrive.
Western Australia
Spending a month in Western Australia, based around Perth, gave us the chance to explore one of the most naturally beautiful parts of the country. It's a destination I often recommend for those looking for space, slower travel and a more laid back Australian experience, with its coastline, vineyards and vibrant harbour towns offering plent to discover.
Perth itself has a wonderful balance of city life and outdoor living, with the Swan River, Kings Park and endless sunshine creating a laid-back atmosphere that feels uniquely Australian. Nearby Freemantle quickly became a favourite, with its historic streets, lively cafes and harbour setting giving it a character all of its own.
Further south Margaret River offers a completely different landscape. Known for its world class wineries, rugged coastline and beautiful countryside, it's the kind of place where long lunches and scenic drives become part of the experience.
From the white sand beaches of the Indian Ocean to the colourful marina at Hillary's Boat Harbour, Western Australia blends coastal beauty with a relaxed lifestyle that makes it incredibly easy to fall in love with.
Florida Family Adventures
Over several trips, Florida proved to be the perfect mix of energy and relaxation, combining the excitement of Orlando with time to relax along the Gulf Coast and the vibrant feel of Miami.
Orlando is of course home to some of the world’s most famous theme parks, but some of our favourite memories were beyond the rides. From swimming with dolphins at Discovery Cove to gliding through the Everglades on an airboat, and visiting both Daytona International Speedway and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, the experiences offer far more than just the parks.
After the excitement of the parks, the Gulf Coast offered a welcome change of pace. Naples and Marco Island are known for their soft white beaches, beautiful sunsets and relaxed atmosphere, making them perfect places to unwind.
Finishing the trip in Miami brings a completely different energy, with its iconic skyline, colourful Art Deco buildings and evenings spent strolling along Ocean Drive.
